Angela Merkel may be the strong favourite to win next weekend’s German elections but that hasn’t stopped her opponents from hounding her on the campaign trail. The German chancellor’s visit to the small seaside town of Binz in the northeast on Saturday had been well highlighted on social media. There were whistles and jeers from among the crowd, as well as slogans such as “Merkel must go”. Observers say they bear the hallmarks of the far right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
